Wags 12/29/10

Yep, gonna finish this year off big with lots of Walgreens posts--haha!!

This was a necessary trip since I forgot toilet paper yesterday. Of course, I stopped at the Dollar Tree again to see if there were any KC Star left--nope! Oh well!! I had big plans for lots of transactions, but, alas, left the checkbook at home. No biggie--going back tomorrow with my friend Diana to show her the ropes!! YAY!

First transaction:
Febreez 25% off $2.46 [it's cheaper at Dillons this week--$1.49], but it rounded out my deal.
used MQ $1/1 from a mailer
Tide Stain release $3.99
used MQ $1/1 from mailer
Bounce Dryer Bars $3.99
Used $2.50/1 from vocalpoint mailer
OOP = $5.94 and since I spent $10 [$10.44 to be exact] in certain items, received $2 RR

Second Transaction:
Huggies wipes [my filler--a cheap item that you do not have a MQ for] $2.99
- Walgreens Q $1/1 = $1.99
2 olay 2pack bars, BOGO 50% off $2.99/1
- 2 $2/1 MQ from January p&g insert = $.48 [12cents per bar]
Charmin 9count $4.49 sale
- MQ $1/1 from mailer = $3.49
Used the $2 RR because I had a filler [which I chose a more expensive filler because it was a NEED].
And spent $3.96 OOP.

According to the receipts, I saved $18.33. This isn't completely accurate because the stuff is sometimes cheaper elsewhere, BUT I still saved and got GOOD stuff. Lookin forward to ANOTHER trip Thursday!! LOL~

Wags Moneymaker 12/28/10

Wahoo for making money at Walgreen's!!!!!
I had this all typed out and then my busy busy 14month old Elizabeth eraased it, so this will just be short and sweet......
FIRST, i went to DollarTree to pick up a couple extra Sunday papers for a $1. Then I snagged the $4/1 sinex product out of the p&g insert.
The best deal would be to have 4 of those coupons and grab 4 of the $5 box of Dayquil Sinex. When you buy $15 of certain sinex/vicks stuff you get $5 RR, or buy $20 and get $10. You would only spend $4 OOP and receive $10 RR, MAKING $6!!!! I didn't foresee the box of dayquil sinex being included, so I didn't buy enough papers, but I got 2 boxes of them, a sinex spray for $6 and a babyvaporub for $4 with $1 MQ and the 3 $4/1 MQs, paying $7 OOP, and still making $3!! YAY!! There are all sorts of combos to make money with this. I plan on getting more papers if I can and even scanning the recycling dumpster for anyone on top of the game and already throwing out this sunday's paper.
I also want to get in on the pantene and herbal essence and aussie deals--none free, but good deals when you go thru it like we do!!
Just me........off to fight some sinus junk.....

Target trip 11/24

Yay for Target + 6 kids [1 sleeping] the day before Thanksgiving!!!

They had a preBlack Friday sale and since we were in Joplin anyway, I decided to get me some diapers [well, get the babies diapers and pullups too].

1 box Huggies snugNdry size 4, 82count $19.79
MQ printable $3/1
1 box pampers easyups size5, 60count $19.99
MQ from ??? $1.50/1
AND I RECEIVED A $5 gift card for getting those
Olay body wash $5.04
2 trial sized secret deo $.97/1
MQ $5/1 olay with secret purchase {10/31 P&G insert}
2 MQ $1/1 secret {P&G mailer}
WHICH = $.02 profit :)

so i spent OOP with tax $36.73 and received $5 gift card = $31.73, aprettty gosh darn good deal!

Awe, but it makes me kinda sorta wish i was gathering the coupons so I could've done THIS, or better, making up to $19 profit!!! Oh well. I'll settle for my 2 cents ~lol

Shopping 11/22

Okay--I am oober proud of getting out of walmart only spending $44 [plus $100 gas card, but that doesn't count--lol]. Of course, we have WIC and I didn't buy meat, but still--I was the ad matching and coupon diva tonight AND came home refreshed and ready to be wallered by babies AND enjoy it :D. OK, so I wasn't a diva--I didn't get a whole bunch of freebies, but whatever, I got a lot for a little and it's stuff we [or our church food pantry] can use!!

I matched:
General Mills cereal 9-17.1 oz $1.49
--Then I couponed like crazy with those, 2 or 3 $.75/1 and a couple $1/2.
Dole fruit 10-20oz $1 and Dole mandarin oranges 15oz $.99
8oz cream cheese [limit 4] $.39
sweet potatoes $.19/lb
8oz coolwhip $.67
cans swanson broth $.47
-- [I bought the boxes too which I had $1/2 coupon for and they had reduced price for $1.98]
7-12oz green giant vegetables $.88
--again, Qs!!! $.50/2 and i got a good deal
6oz stove top stuffing $.89

On WIC, we have $6.00 fresh and frozen fruit/vegetables vouchers. You can admatch and coupon with these, so I got 8 bags of 14-16oz. frozen vegetables, matched for the westpac $.67 plus a few bananas. Pretty awesome--veggies every night!!! :D

Oh, and aroundhere, if you're lookin' for a turkey, Dilllon's has JenniO for $.59/lb, but I have no idea if they have any left--WM doesn't have any that brand here in Carthage :( Guess I should've tried stopping there while in Joplin today--oh well!!

Just Me........trying to save while feedin' this growing fam of 8!

Science Mini Books

Been BUSY working ahead on our Science mini books. I've loaded them up on Scribd if anyone is interested. The upcoming unit in Christian Kids Explore Biology is on Insects. We've completed units 1-3, covering the basics of Biology, Plants, and Birds and are skipping ahead to unit 7 to fit in the 3 weeks before Christmas. I hate leaving things undone to come back and try to catch up after vacation/break/holidays, so we'll get back to Unit 4: Mammals after the New Year. Maybe I'll try to work on those mini booklets soon too, but I should probably get back to paying attention to the little ones running around destroying an already chaotic and cluttered house. Oh, yeah, and making a grocery list and meal prep and stuff like that......just me......loving this little creative break and online escape...........

Weekly Wrap-Up

Trying to summarize months at a time was just too intimidating, so here is just a weekly wrap up.
MONDAY was MOPS, followed by drive thru lunch and a trip up to my sister's house [her kiddos were out of school] where we had way too short a time of cramming in the visiting and fun. Babies love love loved their soft, furry, half-grown kittens and the big girls found a few owl pellets for our bird science unit.
TUESDAY was our day 1 of the week after recovering from the 3 day weekend and clean-up, we had a bit of school done too.
WEDNESDAY was John's birthday, so we celebrated with a yummy cheesecake , but used cherry pie filling on the side instead of the gorgeous fresh strawberries.
THURSDAY was a wasted day, except for co-op. Thank goodness for our co-op teachers---my kids got art, pe, music, and science, oh, and tons of social interaction, so I guess it wasn't a wasted day, huh.
FRIDAY started out as a disappointment. Abigail was sick in the night so we were gonna have to miss the field trip to George Washington Carver, but my friend tripled her cargo and workload by adding in my 4 to her 2--thank the Lord for good friends!!! And i got to discover life with twins without my big helpers--not as devastating as I thought it would be, but I also got them to nap at the same time which is HIGHLY unusual, but let me mop the kitchen and feel good about that!!!
Now I get to blog and plan our grocery shopping for tomorrow--looking forward to some much needed hubby time and family time---hoping everyone stays healthy *shrug*.

We did read about a Chinese Empress and Beowolf as well as make plans for a pagoda birdhouse to build next week out of paper cups/plates/bowls.........behind on grading and lesson planning without 'my' computer, but still optimistic about next week-it will be better than this one...I hope....even if we have to make it thru a stomach bug.......God will provide the strength, willpower, and patience.......
Trying to enjoy each day,
Just me..........

A Beka Health, Safety, & manners 3

Picked up this freebie at our local homeschool meeting the other night [copyright 1984] and decided it is PERFECT for our next science unit to take us thru June or July or so. But, of course, it would be sooooo much better if we could notebook or lapbook with it, soooo.....I've been busy with minibooks!! And, I thought, perhaps, this would help someone else, so contact me if you want the files [5/8 chptrs done] and i'll see if i can get them converted to pdf soon... [I used microsoft online free graphics--not for resale].

pics of train 2008

Papa's Train

Papa's Train

Well, it's been a year since my FIL died. Long year. His brothers had planned a 60th birthday get together with their trail riding buddies and everyone. He was going to be too sick to go and he ended up passing away 4 days before he would've been 60. We decided this gettogether should probably be an annual event. This year's "Spring Gathering" isn't looking too springy, but we headed out there for a few hours anyway. John's trying out a new tent and the kids and I are here in a nice comfy house--albeit quiet and townlike--no coyotes howling or wind either. The kids opted for sleeping bags around the floor of our bed. I forewarned John in case he headed home out of the storms in the dead of night........I keep checking the radar which shows rain as of right now, although the ice and snow could still arrive before dawn.

A few years ago, Papa built a train. Yes, one of those homemade little trains with actual 'cars'--it was the greatest invention EVER according to several little grandkids. It was actually quite inventive--made from dollies and big blue drums/barrells and pulled by whatever was running [lil tractor, lawn mower]....and of course, a caboose--can't forget the caboose--a desk chair attached by a rope to the last car--this was for a brave adult who could yell at kids to sit down and not jump ship....errr...train while it was moving. The train made several improvements over time, although my rear preferred to not ride and get so jostled it ached. Papa took the grandkids on quite the adventures though. Every Sunday or so, we gathered at Nanny and Papa's house--sent the kids outside if it was nice enough, and took it easy. I wish I would've ventured outside more and got to see what our kids saw, but at least they were happily building memories [and clubs and forts and whatever else they could think of]. Papa took them on a train ride thru the redwood forests, jungles, and who knows where else!! It is up for debate among a few where each of these great destinations are now. Perhaps they went to Heaven with Papa.........
The train. Yes, the train. Luke was not even 2 a year ago, but he associates his great idol Papa with the train. Papa lit up Luke's life. His eyes would sparkle and shine when Papa entered the room. Of course, part of this could have been the giant candy jar that papa always got down. Luke sure loved his suckers =).
Tonight, the train, of course, was out. It now has an actual engine and no caboose ~lol~ thanks to various church events and creative family members. Luke missed the rides and was sorely disappointed, so that when it was time for us to leave, I thought for sure I couldn't stop his tears. I explained that we could ride the train at Nanny's house sometime. He was comforted for a bit and then i realized why. "yeah," he said with an L, like lah, "we could ride it at Nanny's and Papa could drive it." oh, my heart wanted to stop. I stooped to explain that, no, remember? Papa died--a statement he himself had made upon arrival at the Baugh Ranch. "oh."
John decided he could drive that train around in the dark just once........and the smiles and laughter radiating from this one little boy? totally worth it.........
ahhhh.....one long year.......so many regrets. I try not to regret, but I regret not trying to preserve and remember....i wish SOOO badly that our kids could ALWAYS remember. He meant soooo much to them!!!
